I love a big glittery diamond ring, a Chanel bag, a blackglama mink. You can make my day with an expensive chocolate truffle or a gourmet Tiramisu. I’d rather stay at the George V or the Ritz Paris than the Hotel St. George on Rue Navaronne, or stay in the Atlantis, Bahamas and not the Holiday Inn.
I liked riding in a Rolls Royce with a sheepskin rug for your feet. The little perks that cost sooo much can make life pleasantly enjoyable. But, no matter how much you think you want the new ‘thing’, cars, houses, clothes, gadgets, they become very boring, very quickly.
We’ve been so blessed again because our son, Josh was married 3 years ago to a beautiful girl named Carlyn, and she just gave birth to the dearest little baby girl named Adalaide Jo.
We all rushed in great excitement to the hospital to see them. Carlyn looked very, very good. She looked pretty and healthy and really strong for someone who had just birth a few hours before. Josh was beaming with happiness, he looked good, but he was one sore, semi crippled guy. Two days before little Addy was born, he fractured his foot playing basketball and was reduced to crutches and laying about keeping his foot elevated. Through it all, he managed to hold his baby as much a he could in spite of the fact that we didn’t want to let go of her.
We were busy with all of our schedules before she was born, so we thought it’d be clever to have a baby shower after she was born, then we’d know if the baby was a boy or girl and we could buy all the best, sweet little outfits. While I was busy working and planning the shower, I realized that all I wanted to do was to sit and rock the baby instead of baking and shopping. Those sweet, quiet hours of rocking a baby during the first few days of her life are so precious and can never be captured again.
It was worth all the work, though, because the shower was so much fun, and it was then that I realized how rich I am. It meant so much to me that my sister would drive 5 or 6 hours just to celebrate with us. I hope everyone had as nice a time as I did.
Carlyn’s mom, who’d already had a lovely shower for her, was able to come and spend the day with us.
We had food and fun together, sharing little Adalaide with each other.
You can’t even compare the beauty of a new life to a trinket that can be bought, the heartwarming joy of family and friends gathering together and oohing and ahhing over the sweet baby. I love that we have family who are willing to apply their skills to make the day go well. I couldn’t have done it without the help of the girls.
We have a niece who’s gifted in her baking abilities who made us a beautiful baby shower cake and we have 2 lovely daughters here that worked and worked to make the event a success. http://naomi-sugarspice.blogspot.com/
Abby and Beth worked so hard making it all happen. Abby did her ‘favorite’ jobs…house cleaning, haha. Bethany was inspired to try some her new recipes. I think it all looked and tasted quite fancy and gourmet. Good times relaxing together after the party as the men got home. Sad to see the new Mommy and Daddy leave, but we’ll see them soon. I’ll be needing to hold that baby again soon.
Just one more picture, because I can’t resist. Isn’t she beautiful? I love her.
