I know you can’t really see Europe in 8 days but we did 2 days in London, 2 days in Paris and 2 days in Rome plus a little bit of left over for travel time. What a wonderful crazy trip. What a wonderful crazy man to plan such a fantastic trip just for the 2 of us.
Have you ever travelled first class on an airplane? I’ve been able to ride first class several times over the years, but when you’re just travelling around the country, it just means that you get a bigger seat and free drinks that you can have right away and you don’t have to wait half an hour for the cart to come down the aisle.
Travelling overseas first class is a whole different world. I’m only bragging because we were able to score the upgrade for free. I’m totally spoiled now. David got comfy with a full size pillow, a big quilt, and he started playing with all the gadgets that made your seat go completely flat so you could stretch out and lay down all the way and actually sleep for a few hours.
At our seat was a travel bag full of gifts. It contained a sleep mask, socks, tissues, lip balm, lotion and a toothbrush and toothpaste. There was a bottle of water waiting for each of us on our tables. You know, all I ever want when I sit down on a plane is a bottle of water. Is that too much to ask? Apparently the answer to that is Yes! Normally you wait for the beverage cart, and then you pay $2.00 for a water. First class was serving champagne and orange juice as we entered and they gave us a menu to choose our dinner.
Dinner was served on real dishes, real metal knives and forks, and it was delicious. Filet Mignon, grilled veggies, tomato basil soup, warm rolls and butter, shrimp and hearts of palm appetiser…I could go on but its too annoying, I know.
This was actual food, and it was actually good, but I have to tell you the most delicious was the chocolate cheesecake. Its some of the best I’ve ever had. They offered us ice cream sundaes, imported cheeses and the cheese cake. Yum!
Its so funny that we were all excited about being able to lay down completely to sleep, because we spent so much of our time watching cool movies and shows that we wouldn’t normally see and eating way too much food. We did have a chance to rest and then before we knew it, they started serving us breakfast…yogurt, granola, coffee, croissants…awesome. It was crazy. You leave at 7:30 pm Michigan time and arrive in England at 7:30 am and its a 7 hour flight, your mind and body are all confused but since they were offering such nice treats, we took it all 🙂
